The ATELCAB<\/strong> carried out on the day January 9, 2026<\/strong>, the official act of Awarding of the contract for public lighting work in the province of Cabinda<\/strong>, a structuring project that aims to improve urban mobility, strengthen public safety and raise the quality of life of the population.<\/p>\n

The contract signing marks the formal start of the project, which will cover several strategic areas of the province, with the installation and modernization of public lighting infrastructure, using efficient technical solutions suited to local needs.<\/p>\n

Minister of Energy and Water receives World Bank delegation in audience.<\/h2>\n\n

The Minister of Energy and Water, Jo\u00e3o Baptista Borges, received a delegation of World Bank officials today, February 6, 2026, at the Ministry of Energy and Water headquarters. The meeting also included the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, as well as senior officials from the sector.<\/p>\n\n

Regarding the World Bank, Junaid Kamal, Vice President of MIGA (Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency of the World Bank), and other officials and experts from the institution were present.<\/p>\n\n

The meeting was part of the strengthening of institutional dialogue and strategic cooperation between the Angolan Executive and the World Bank, focusing on the status of ongoing projects in the energy and water sectors financed by this institution, as well as on identifying opportunities for the development of new structuring projects in both areas.<\/p>\n\n

During the course of the work, some constraints encountered in the execution of certain projects were also analyzed, and the parties proceeded to jointly assess technical and institutional solutions with a view to safeguarding the fulfillment of the established objectives.<\/p>\n\n

On that occasion, Minister Jo\u00e3o Baptista Borges emphasized the strategic importance of the World Bank as a privileged partner of the energy and water sector, highlighting that this is the sector in Angola that registers the largest volume of financial cooperation with that multilateral institution.<\/p>\n\n

The minister also addressed the RECLIMA project, focusing on climate resilience and combating the effects of drought, particularly in the southern regions of the country, reaffirming the Executive's commitment to public policies geared towards adapting to climate change.<\/p>\n\n

In the area of \u200b\u200bwater supply, the Minister highlighted the province of Luanda as a strategic priority, taking into account, among other factors, its high population density, estimated at around 13 million inhabitants. In this context, the importance of the Bita project, currently underway, was emphasized, with a view to strengthening the capacity for the production and distribution of drinking water to the country's capital.<\/p>\n\n

Regarding the electricity sector, the Executive's main priorities were presented, with particular emphasis on strengthening the participation of the private sector, especially in the electricity transmission and distribution segments, within the framework of ongoing reforms.<\/p>\n\n

Beyond identifying sectoral priorities, the Minister of Energy and Water outlined a set of potential actions to be developed within the framework of deepening this strategic partnership, reviewing the majority of projects underway, their progress, and prospects for expansion.<\/p>\n\n

In this context, the possibility of extending structuring initiatives was analyzed, namely the Institutional Development Project for the Water Sector (PDISA), with the transition to a third phase focusing more on the sanitation component, as well as the potential implementation of a second phase of the Bita project, given its strategic relevance.<\/p>\n\n

The meeting was considered productive by both parties, and the commitment to strengthen institutional cooperation was reiterated, with a view to pursuing the strategic objectives of the Angolan Executive, aimed at improving the living conditions of the population and promoting the sustainable development of the country.<\/p>\n\n
